Concrete Driveway

Concrete is the most commonly used building material in the world. Its versatility is what makes it a great material to build with. Its strength and durability is what makes it great for driveways, paths and shed and garage bases. It is easy to install, maintenance free and is made from four simple ingredients; sand, gravel, cement and water. When these are mixed together the water and the cement create a process known as hydration which turns the concrete from a slurry into a stone-like material.

Benefits:

  • Cost-effective material
  • Very strong
  • Very versatile
  • Easy to lay
  • Low maintenance

Laying Concrete

Start by digging out 200mm of ground and laying 100mm of hardcore. Compact this thoroughly then fix timber shutter around the edge of the area you want to concrete ensuring that the timber is set at your required height. Then, start pouring the concrete into place. Once your concrete is in situe you can then start to level the concrete out using an aluminium screed bar. Rest the screed onto your timber shuttering and pull the excess concrete off until it is level with the shuttering you have set. Then you can trowel the surface smooth. Once the concrete has firmed up run a soft brush over the surface then using a border trowel, trowel around all the edges leaving a smooth border.
